The process of becoming a mother often uproots our own childhood experiences, wounds and desires. It is a refining process that encourages us to turn inward as we bond with and raise our children.

Many of us are caught off guard by the intensity of motherhood and all that is brought to the surface; we may not have the tools or confidence to sit in the emotions as they come – maybe they run the show or maybe they get pushed away.

I have worked with mothers who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, grief & loss, addiction, bipolar disorder and many other challenges. While I may have experience working with this population, one truth stands out: you are an individual and bring unique experiences to motherhood. I hold deep respect for you and your personal experience. My hope is to help you find balance - so that you may find healing and joy in this new chapter of your life and confidence in the parent you are.

The key to managing emotions doesn't always lie in understanding where they come from, although, this can be helpful. Sometimes its gaining the confidence to tolerate them, to trust that they will not un-do you.
We will work together to explore the feelings that have been coming up for you- to gain compassion towards them, feel them, and explore how your nervous system
has been working for you throughout your life.

While sessions are tailored to each individual, I find that Internal Family Systems (IFS) is one model that is flexible and relatable to most. IFS sees the different parts that make you up as an individual. For example…

  • Part of me loves being a mom more than anything, but part of me is begging for a break.

  • I feel so confident at work and home, but when I see my parents, I just shrink back and feel like a kid again.

Together, we can get to know all the parts of you – the bold parts, the hurt parts, the protective parts, the peaceful parts. Your parts make up a story, a way of living. Accessing these parts often leads to increased self-compassion and understanding.

Therapy for Moms

"Becoming a mother leaves no woman as it found her. It unravels her and rebuilds her. It cracks her open, takes her to the edges. It's both brutal and beautiful, often at the same time."

-- Nikki McCahon

About The Supported Mama and Clear Mind Therapy:

Hannah and Ashley started The Supported Mama (TSM) together in 2019. TSM was born out of a passion to support women as they transition into motherhood- originally offering birth and postpartum doula support. We have since evolved to offer childbirth education classes, baby basics classes, and - for a long time- therapy was offered under The Supported Mama as well! I made the decision to bring therapy under its own business as a way to be inclusive for families seeking support and to continue to grow the practice. We don't *just* work with pregnant and postpartum moms and I wanted the business to reflect that- we welcome dads, couples and even families. The Supported Mama remains a strong and united business and we will continue to offer birth support to our community! You can always access therapy through The Supported Mama, which would bring you right here!
